Green is the new Black.
(Check this page regularly for frequent updates and additional green information!)
LaDiff knows that being green is a constant learning process. As we travel the world to bring you interesting and exciting home furnishings, we also meet manufacturers and vendors who do more than their part to secure a greener future for their children. We know that going green isn’t something you can do in a day, so we’ve been spending some time taking a closer look at ourselves and how we do business, and we’re working hard to bring you a greener community.
At LaDiff we’ve taken a closer look at ourselves and our vendors to better communicate to our green-aware guests where to look for eco-friendly products. Look for our green leaf seal of approval on products made with greener standards. What do we mean by 'greener standards'?
Sustainable Furnishings Council.
LaDiff is proud to be a charter member of the Sustainable furnishings council.
The Sustainable Furnishings Council is a non-profit balanced coalition of industry players created to promote sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike with a public tagging program to identify good choices. Learn more about the SFC.
The SFC recognizes the overwhelming scientific consensus that our world is experiencing dangerous global climate change. SFC members acknowledge the tremendous urgency, and will take immediate steps to minimize carbon emissions, waste stream pollutants, un-recyclable content and primary materials from unsustainable sources from any product platform under their control.
As a member of the SFC, LaDiff makes a continuing effort to have an open dialogue with the makers of our products (those we carry and those we do not), to share what we know with our customers, and to offer a growing variety of eco-friendly products.
LaDiff is also proud to announce that our very own Jaye Erickson is now a GREENleader Accredited Professional, in conjuction with the SFC. The six-unit GREENleaders program covers a wide-range of topics pertinent to the home furnishings industry and sustainability, such as environmental issues, sourcing green products, and designing and operating green interiors. Jeff Hiller, President of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, and GREENleaders developer, says “As an organization we are particularly proud to offer the first substantial educational content for our industry. With this program, we in the home furnishings industry have the opportunity to understand not only the detrimental effects we cause to the environment, but perhaps more importantly, the solutions for mitigating these effects through our practices.” (Click to read the full press release).
The mark of Greener Standards: LaDiff’s Green Leaf seal. (back to top)
If you’re interested in buying a greener product, look for our Green Leaf seal on companies and products throughout the store and website. Products and manufacturers who take steps to be eco friendly and minimize their impact can earn our green leaf seal in any number of ways:
- Manufacturing locally
- Obtaining materials within the country that the end product is manufactured in
- FSC or other green certification (or equivalent)
- By being a member of a trade organization that promotes sustainability
- By recycling excess materials of production
- By altering packaging to reduce waste and non-recyclable materials
- By making efforts to reduce the impact of transportation of goods, materials, and the final product.
- By making efforts in the way raw/unfinished goods are prepared to reduce energy consumption and waste
- By using composite lumber materials, water based or low VOC paints/sealers/adhesives, foam alternatives (such as a soy-based soy foam blend, or recycled foam for cushion materials), and more.
